ARTIST BACKGROUND:
Deadwood Mosaics is the product of two merging passions, Arabian horses and mosaic art.

Several years ago I began my mission to get my first horse and after much book and field research, I decided on the Arabian, a breed known for its beauty, versatility, intelligence, enthusiasm and gentleness.

At around the same time I crossed paths with a wooded bench made with broken pottery and several horseshoes and considered it a beautiful piece of work. Right then and there, I decided to start making custom mosaic benches and tables, but instead of using chards of pottery and ordinary horseshoes, I decided to use the traditional mosaic glass or tile and the actual shoes of the horses that used them.

Some of the pieces used shoes belonging to a Legion of Merit honoree and U.S. National Champion, like Bay Abi or a plain, old Legion of Merit horse like Bay El Bey or a shoe from Khemosabi, recipient of the Legion of Master Award. Some just use shoes from a favorite trail horse like my Tiki or the family pet.
